In 1996, Ellen earned the designation of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and in 2003 earned the designation of Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU). Ellen is a Licensed NYS Real Estate Salesperson.

Ellen served as a director for The Insurance Club of Buffalo from 2005 to 2009 and was elected as an Officer for Secretary in 2009. The Western New York Insurance Association (WNYIA) elected her as a director in 2012. In 2013, she was elected Officer, secretary, and in 2014-15 she was elected Vice President. In addition, she was a member of the Insurance Club of Pittsburgh from 2008-2015.
